Mac Review

I had mentioned to a friend, who's now in the West side of the country, about Intel providing the new CPUs for Apple about a year and a half ago... maybe? It was well before the announcement, when a flurry of rumors were still floating about. It had struck a chord with me because this was when speculation on the final components of Xbox 360 were still uncertain, seemed an unusual marriage between Intel and Apple. But then again, a lot of surprises were occurring- Microsoft went to IBM (as did Sony and Nintendo) for the main chipset and opted for the ATi card graphics card rather then Nvidia's which powered the generation just before it. I had presented the information in such a manner that the information was in fact, very bad news. Intel had fallen from grace; Lose of IBM's Power Mac G5 chipset for the Apple; This news seemed to herald the end of the Mac revitalization.

Fast forward a few months. Right after the Apple announcement, Intel had released the white paper on their new chipset. Simply put, it was going to be a sexy chip. It didn't have the brute power AMD-64 chipset but it was quiet, power efficient, and handled the cache in such a manner that classmates and I were geeking out on it. The general consensus was that "Only if I had a lot of extra money and only after I upgrade my PC."

That was then and now I'm typing this out from my Intel Mac. I did not upgrade my PC (I'm waiting for Windows Vista to come out first). I had purchased it when the system had been out for only weeks, during a intensive impulsive spree I had purchased a Mac. Luckily for me, it is not a purchase I regret at all. While there are quite a few nice features, including things that will be invaluable in a future career.

Am I a convert? Yes, I am certainly happy with how the Macs perform. Will I give up PCs? Not a chance. Their are still advantages that I can't live without. Now, I need both types at any given time. Making me that much poorer, but that much happier. I'm such a dork.

I'm also a jackass it seems.
I had done a quick illustration of an old friend and send it to her, only to send it with the name of her sister. :/
